Spring Exercises to Do Outdoors

Spring is right around the corner, and for many of us, that means it's time to get out of our winter-time slumps and stop making excuses to stay indoors. The weather is warming up, the days are getting longer, and there's never been a better time to enjoy some outdoor exercise! After all, outdoor exercise exposes the body to natural sunlight, which causes the release of the feel-good hormone known as serotonin. 

Ready to kick those winter blues and enjoy some outdoor exercise? We've got some great ideas that you can enjoy on your own or with loved ones!

Take a Stroll

If you feel out-of-shape or want to ease into a more rigorous exercise routine, start small. Take 30 minutes per day to go for a brisk walk around your neighborhood. This provides you with an excellent opportunity to enjoy the sun and warmth while also enjoying some cardiovascular exercise at the same time. And you might be surprised to learn that you can easily burn a couple hundred calories with a brisk, 30-minute walk.

Hit the Trails

Want to enjoy a little more adventure with your workout? Research some local state parks or nature reserves that have hiking trails. Then, don your best pair of boots, grab some water and snacks, and hit the trails. Hiking is great for both calorie burning and strength building. Some parks even have trails ranging in difficulty, so you can select a trail that best coincides with the intensity of the workout you desire. As an added bonus, you'll get to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature in the spring time!

Go on a Bike Ride

Dust off that bike that's been sitting in your garage and enjoy a ride throughout your neighborhood or a local bike trail. Biking is a great workout because it burns calories while toning the muscles in your lower body. Biking in the spring time can be a great experience, allowing you to take in the sights of spring while feeling the breeze blow through your hair. Just be sure to wear the appropriate safety equipment, including a helmet and reflective gear if you plan on riding at night.

Try Outdoor Yoga

If you've been enjoying indoor yoga over the winter, why not take your yoga exercises outside? Simply grab your yoga mat and find a level place to set it down, whether it be your back deck/porch or any level area of grass in your yard. Performing your usual yoga routine outside can be an invigorating and uplifting experience—especially during the spring time. You might even want to consider enrolling in a yoga place that takes place at a local park or other outdoor space.

Many sports leagues start up around spring time, so consider joining one. Whether your interests lie in volleyball, soccer, softball, or anything in between, surely you can find a local league that suits your level of experience and skill.
